1 Kings 19:12 - purposefully set time aside to hear from God

Updated: Jul 6, 2021

1 Kings 19:12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire a still small voice.

Many a times, we often want God to speak to us, we want to hear from God. However, God is not the earthquake and the frightening fire.🔥 But God speaks to us in the still small voice. That just shows the love ❤️, closeness and intimacy God has for us. In the same way as parents, it is more endearing when my little son comes close to me and whispers "I love you, mummy"

And how we to do hear God's voice? For me personally, it is during my quiet time with God when I spend my time reading the bible and praying. He speaks to me through His word, through promptings from the Holy Spirit.

Away from the noise, and the everyday commotion. especially so when I purposefully set aside time, I can hear from God.

This scripture artwork was digitally hand-drawn as a reminder to purposefully set aside time to hear from God, hence the little grotto in the mountain.

So we put quiet time aside, ready to hear from God, but how do we really hear from God? How do we know and identity that it is from God??

The Bible John 10:27 “My Sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” You will be able to hear your heavenly Father’s voice. Just as a child know and recognizes his mother’s voice. It is a natural thing.

Walk in the spirit, be led by it. Follow that peace.

I remember times when I prayed and ask God on a certain matter, praying to God for a solution, but the things God answer me back would be like: “What really? God that doesn’t make much sense?”

Just like how Abraham who was barren and waiting for his miracle child , was told by God to lay hands and pray for Abimelech, to bore children. (Genesis 20:17) -Sometimes logically you might not understand it.

Man’s way is to tackle and solve the problem head on. But God’s way is to go about it in a circular way. (Which maybe at the moment may not make sense to you,) Winding up the path, and before you realize it, you have conquered/overcome the problem. FYI in Israel, the paths the sheep take up the mountains, is to go up in a circular path.

Lastly, anything that drives you/push you into making a decision is not from God. God will not drive you, He leads you. Just as a shepherd goes ahead and leads us (His sheep).
